It’s been a long time

So much has happened… 2008 ended up being one of our most challenging and saddest years… such pain and loss.

The highlight of the year was Mike and Phemie’s wedding – such a lovely time for our family. It was everything you would want it to be. We stayed in a 3 bed apt on the GC and just enjoyed being together and getting ready for the wedding.

Then just a month later… the sadness and loss arrived. I couldn’t write about it. And still it goes on.

The highlight of 2010 was the arrival of a second grandaughter in February… so much joy, surely we had passed through the season of loss and were in abundance again?

But then it started again… So much loss.. if not in our personal lives.. it’s in our professional lives… pain and loss… challenges that take us to the brink! Have faith and hold on tight… wait for God to work it for good as he promises in Rom 8:28.

Ahhhh, Christmas!

I love it. For me, Christmas “fixes everything”. By this I simply mean that faith in the teachings and promises of Jesus is at the core of my personal peace and happiness. Salvation, forgiveness, purpose… bathed in the love and grace of God. For me, Christmas “fixes everything.

I am so angry with many of my american, christian friends. I am also disappointed at the naivity and immaturity and gullibility displayed as many good people are sucked into fear based, racially motivated smear campaigns against a good man who I believe will not only be good for America, but for the world.

Even if he is not the candidate of your choice, this does not make it ok to continue such a scurrilous campaign that is based in fear and hatred. You can be better than this. You must be better than this. If you really believe that God is sovereign then why don’t you believe that God might actually have ‘blessed America’ (and possibly even the world) as you continually ask him to… by giving you Obama!

If you humble yourselves, turn from your wicked ways, God will hear you and heal your land… let the healing begin. 2 Chron 7:14

October is not only here.. possibly already half over

… and I am just writing my first blog for October.

I think I’ve lost heart with blogging… I don’t know if this conditional is terminal or temporary… time will tell.

We did have a wonderful week with our grandaughter while her parents were in Japan. Quite, Quite special. And we are now heading to the ‘country/beach’ for 3 short days off. Maybe I’ll feel a bit more inspired after we get back.

The next BIG thing

The next BIG thing in our family should be Steve and Heidi’s trip to Japan… which is exciting for more reason than one. Steve and Heidi have been looking forward to this holiday for some time – and, we get to look after Samara for half the time they are away. Woohoo! But just now, we have heard that Dan and Jenn found out today that the home they are renting is up for sale…. so the next BIG thing in our family may very well be ‘MOVING DAY’… whichever event comes first, it will not be a boring October for us.

the wedding was wonderful

Beautiful… meaningful… touching… perfect.

The weather was perfect… our accommodation was perfect… we loved being together in the apartment, and we loved meeting Phemie’s family… everything was just perfect really. We were also able to catch up with friends… even though one of them tried to run me over!

We ate out… we ate in… we got time with Nick, Jo and Georgia…

The ceremony was perfect, Steve was awesome… the boys looked wonderful and Phemie… well she was just perfect really. We smiled, we hugged, we ate, we danced…. Dan gave the best toast ever… everything was just perfect. And then we came home and now I cannot stop looking at photos and remembering how perfectly wonderful everything was.

Which outfit should I wear?

Dressing should be fun.. but its always harder when you’re bigger. There’s no real way of disguising fat. Just have to cover it as best you can and still look reasonable. SO… here we are, at one of the big events of life… my son’s wedding. I want to look nice, so I have tried my hardest to drop a few kilos… but it has turned into that horrible yo-yo thing… a few kilo’s off, a few kilo’s on. Sigh!

So what do I do? I have done my best to find a nice outfit… and I should be pleased that I have two options for the wedding. I like the style of the black dress with the very smart, fully lined blue jacket very much… but the chiffon dress and lace jacket is fine too… perhaps a bit more comfy to wear. What on earth will I do? Which one should I choose?

Trying to keep everyone ‘HAPPY’

Impossible task… but it is my lot at the moment. Trying to mesh the varied and at times extreme views of the congregation into some kind of harmonious vision and philosophy for the WAY FORWARD… into our MISSION… into our future together as a body of believers.

Hard to tell what’s really going on sometimes. People react to situations when what is needed is listening … praying… and then responding to the situation. Remembering that we ARE the church… and must move and act like the church. It’s not always easy to work out what that should look like… but to move withought listening, thoughtful reflection, and prayer should not be an option for a faith community.

Press on… I tell myself. Do these things yourself and God WILL turn up!
